The Youth Ministry of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Palauig, Zambales

The Youth Ministry of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Palauig, Zambales held our tree planting activities last September 8, 2011.  We started at 7:30 in the morning with the registration of participants, and then attended a mass in honor of our Blessed Virgin Mary on her birthday.

We, the youth leaders coordinated with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist at Balili, Iba, Zambales.  Thanks to the Provincial Agriculturist in the person of Rene D. Mendoza, Ph. D.  who provided
us with four hundred (400) mahogany seedlings.  The Local Government of Palauig for the site and the Philippine Army for our transportation and the Samahang Kabataan  (SK, Palauig Chapter) for manpower.

We encountered many problems but with God’s help, we were able to push through with our plan.  First problem, was the site, our Mayor told us that the only available site for us was the mountain.  Our parish priest did not approve of it.  Next problem were the seedlings. The module stated that exotic species like MAHOGANY are highly discouraged.  We cannot do anything because these were the only seedlings available at the Office of the Provincial Agriculture that time.  With this problem, we came up with the solution of why not plant these seedlings in lands owned by our parish, particularly in places where we have our barangay chapels.  We are  always faced with  problems of not having shades when we have our church’s affairs  because no trees were planted near it. Our barangay youth will be in charge of taking care of those planted seedlings.

After the mass we had some games which was related to the given module.  One of the Philippine Army Officer gave us some talk.  An officer taught us how to plant properly and how to take care of them.  He also gave some insights on monitoring, preserving and how to have long time commitments.

Our first destination was Barangay Pangolingan.  We stopped at the boundary and it was there where we said our opening prayer led by Brix Mirote of the Campus Ministry.  Facing the beautiful mountains and the rising sun, we offered ourselves and the seedlings we are to plant that morning.  From the boundary we walked toward the chapel, so we also had done Alay Lakad para sa Kalikasan.  We, the  Youth of the Immaculate Conception Parish were serious and dedicated in our endeavors in caring and preserving our environment.

The next barangay was Salaza.  Some elders went out of their way to welcome and conversed with us.  A man even asked if we could plant some trees in their barangay day care center.  We gave some awareness on tree planting and care for Mother Nature.  We felt that both the young and the old who met us felt happy, not realizing that they made us happy too for the welcome and concern  we received from them.  There was the feeling of joy because not only us were serious about the care for Mother Earth, others begun to realize the importance of helping one another for a common cause.

Next stop was Sitio Dampay  where the famous and much talked about Mount Tapulao was.  We had our lunch at the dam.  This dam was the main source of water for farmers from Palauig.  From Sitio Dampay,  we were to proceed to three more barangays namely Cauyan, San Vicente and Liozon.  We failed to reach Barangay Lipay due to road problems.  The bridge was under repair.

Our last destination was Carmel Academy.  When we reached the academy, we rested then had our merienda.  We planted some trees on the school campus.  We finished our activities for the day with a closing prayer, now led by Ruffa Arangorin, a Servant of Mary.  We had group pictures and went home,

tired but contented, we have done something for MOTHER NATURE and we know GOD loves and was happy with what we had done.

The Sangguniang Kabataan of the municipality of Palauig supported the tree planting activity of the Parish Youth Ministry of the Immaculate Conception Parish in connection with the 1 M trees project of the CBCP – Year of the Youth.

As SK Federation President in Palauig, I am compelling myself to be an instrument to encourage the Young people in Palauig to be united as one to perform their duties and responsibilities to care for life of the environment.

I firmly believe that youth leaders in Palauig can unite and work hand in hand regardless of race and religion to promote consciousness on how to take care of the environment and value life in general, peace and harmony in their respective places.

The Tree Planting Activity of the Parish Youth Ministry of Immaculate Conception Parish, Palauig held last September 8, 2011 in honor of Mama Mary’s birthday, stressed the importance of inculcating into the young people’s consciousness that the environment gives life.

Truly, the dynamic leadership exemplified by the Parish Youth Ministry Coordinator, MARIA LOURDES A. MANA is a standard that we wish to see in all Youth organizations.

Congratulation to the Immaculate Conception Parish Youth Ministry for a job well done!

“A BIG SUCCESS”

"A big success", it's the words that I said after the Tree Planting Activity of the Youth Ministry of Immaculate Conception Parish ,Palauig that was held in the several areas of Palauig, Zambales especially in the different Barangay Chapels. A total of 400 seedlings of Mahogany that we planted in the said areas. The Phillippine Army also joined us and without their help we can't finish it perfectly. It was said a success , first of all God gave a wonderful weather condition, second, we helped in the saving of our Nature even though in a simple way and the last one is we had a lots of fun. Personally, i really enjoyed it behind the tiredness. It also shows that the youth, especially in Palauig were environment friendly. Instead of taking drugs, gambling and doing other none sense activities, why not be a part of Saving this world because we have the responsibility to care for it. We all believed that the youh is the hope of the country so let us all be responsible. By this simple tree planting acitivity. I think it will bears a big result .
I am encouraging all the youth to begin in doing their responsibilities as a citizen and espcially as a son of God. The time is running so let's start now ,not tomorrow.
