A Step to a Dream Come True

A Step to a Dream Come True

I’ve read somewhere that if you want to be remembered long after you’re gone, all you have to do is plant a tree. This is what the leaders of the Central Luzon Regional Youth Ministry (CLRYM) did last April 2, 2011. Armed with their shovels, hoes, seedlings and their desire to take part in ECY’s goal of planting 1 million trees for the celebration of the year of the youth, the youth leaders from six out of the seven dioceses of the Central Luzon Region went to Doña Remedios Trinidad, a town in Bulacan, to plant mahogany seedlings as part of the CLRYM’s regional meeting and fellowship.

Not just planting, but growing
Galilee, a home for the spiritually wounded people, was the chosen venue of the Diocese of Malolos for the tree planting activity because monitoring of the planted seedlings will be done by the residents of Galille. The seedlings will not only be planted but also be kept an eye on their development to full-grown trees.  Most of the time, when we do tree planting activities, no follow up activity is done to see if the trees grew or not. After planting, we assume that the tree will grow. But we fail to realize that proper monitoring is the key to successfully planting trees. Another is to know the type of soil needed by the seedling and the timing of the planting of the seedling.

The tree planting activity done in Doña Remedios Trinidad is only the start of the region in doing its share in contributing to the target one million trees. In their respective dioceses, the different diocesan youth ministries also have their plans of planting seedlings as part of the celebration of the Year of the Youth on the diocesan level. Each member diocese of the CLRYM pledged their respective number of seedlings to be planted and they will do the tree planting as a diocesan activity.

The Central Luzon Executive Team
To monitor the dioceses not only in their tree planting activities but also in their different activities in relation to the Year of the Youth, the Central Luzon Executive Team was created. It is composed of the Diocesan Youth Coordinators or Leaders and headed by the Regional Youth Director, Rev. Fr. Fernando S. Urbano, SDB. The Central Luzon Executive Team will document and report all of the activities in the region concerning the celebration of the Year of the Youth.

With each young people planting a tree, one million trees will not just be a dream but a reality we could take pride of!
