NYD Cross visited Iligan

By: Sr. Emily Lumido, MSM

The Diocese of Iligan welcomed the National Youth Cross from the Archdiocese of Cagayan on May 25, 2011 at St. Michael's Cathedral, Iligan City with the youth of the City Parishes.

It started with a motorcade at San Roque Parish going to the Cathedral followed with a simple yet festive Rite of Acceptance. A meaningful Eucharistic Celebration and a solemn Taize Prayer followed. Before the cross arrived, we had a joyful moment of waiting, with the talk given by Fr. Jeffrey Balanay. Also, we enjoyed dancing of the theme song "Make a stand."

On the 2nd day, we transferred the National Youth Cross at St. Francis Xavier Parish, Kapatagan, Lanao Del Norte to let the youth of San Isidro Labrador and Christ the King Vicariates experienced also this activity. They Welcomed the Cross with a festive parade around the town, followed with a Eucharistic Celebration, and  with a Talk of the three Priests speakers and an overnight activity.

On the 3rd day, the National Youth Cross was transfered to Sto.Ninio Vicariate at San Isidro Labrador Parish, Maigo, LDN. They prepared a uniqe way of welcoming the cross with an overnight activity.

On the 28th of May, we turned over the cross to the Archdiocese of Ozamis with the blessing of the rain.
We culminated our three day celebration with an overnight recollection as well as fellowship at Granaderos Beach Resort, Maigo. We had a deep reflection as we shared our experiences following the theme: “Stand firm in the Faith..Do all Your Work In Love”. As we shared our joys, pains, trials, challenges, we looked back and celebrate( Paglingon at pagdiriwang); and look forward as we shared our dreams and wishes for the youth and youth ministry (pagtanaw).
