02 November is the COMMEMORATION OF ALL THE DEPARTED. 12 days to go to the NYD2011!
Planted in Christ:
Today’s feast illuminates further (since yesterday) our belief in the communion of saints, which is “made up of all men who have placed their hope in Christ and belong to him through Baptism, whether they have already died or are still alive. Because in Christ we are one Body: we live in a communion that encompasses heaven and earth. The Church is larger and more alive than we think. Among her members are the living and the deceased (whether they are still undergoing a process of purification or are already in the glory of God)... Whatever the individual does or suffers in and for Christ benefits all” (YouCat 146).
Built-up Christian life:
“Walang sinuman ang nabubuhay (o namamatay) para sa sarili lamang. Tayong lahat ay may pananagutan sa isa’t-isa...” Did you sing? :-) These lines from a popular Mass song teach us about the communion of saints. How is this mystery of our faith (which we profess every Sunday: “I believe in the Holy Spirit... the communion of saints...”) influencing your life as Christ’s disciple?
Firm in the faith:
Let us remember in prayer all the departed, especially those who have no one remembering them. Offer a celebration of the Eucharist for them today (or, if it is not possible today, any day within the week) solely for this intention.
