National Youth Day Cross Pilgrimage
June 6-8, 2011
Theme: “Stand Firm in Faith… Do all your works in love” (1 Cor 16: 13-14)


Basilan - More than 50 Youth from the Prelature of Isabela de Basilan attended National Youth Day Cross Pilgrimage last June 6, 2011 at Sta. Isabel de Portugal Cathedral Parish.

The Basilan Youth welcomed the NYD cross as it came all the way from Ipil. Together with some representatives from the Youth Ministry of the Diocese of Ipil, the cross was bequeath and was accepted by the Diocesan Youth Formation Program (DYFP) after the procession from Isabela City wharf to Sta. Isabel de Portugal Cathedral Parish. The acceptance rite was held in the most solemn fashion for most of the Basilan Youth consider it as their first.

“You young people, you are our future leader and you add color to the church without you our church will not be colorful, coz you are very energetic, flexible and visible to the church.” said Most Rev. Martin S. Jumoad, DD, Bishop of Basilan in his inspirational message to all the youth.

The Eucharistic Celebration was followed at 5 o’clock in the afternoon with the main presider Rev.Fr. Pascual Benitez,Jr. For two consecutive days, the parishioners, especially the youth shall pray the Holy Rosary at Sta. Isabel de Portugal Cathedral Parish being one of its line of activities.

Rev. Fr. Pascual Benitez, Jr. presided the send-off rite at Sta. Isabel de Portugal Parish on its third-day. The cross is due on its next pilgrimage at the Vicariate of Jolo Sulu.

The National Youth Cross Pilgrimage is a part of the activities of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY) as we celebrate the Year of the Youth and the 25th Anniversary of the ECY.
