According to the organizers, the difference of the youth forum in Cebu was the delegates who attended are the delegates of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) National Assembly Days who came from the different Don Bosco setting nationwide together with some young people from the Archdiocese of Cebu.
They also said that the forum gives opportunity not only for the guests but for the delegates as well to express their innermost feelings and personal experiences in having mutual relationships.
“Every three years, selected members, youth leaders and animators (Lay & SDB) gather for SYM National Assembly. This event is the main structure for evaluation, consultation, direction-setting and decision making for the different associations, federations and unique groups within the movement,” they added.

One of the highlights in this significant Salesian youth gathering is to celebrate the conclusions of the CBCP Year of the Youth. With this, the Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY) organized a Youth Forum which imbibes the core values of FAITH and LOVE that is rooted from the CBCP theme, “Stand firm in faith, Do all your works with love”.
The organizers also said that the forum entitled “LOVE ROCKS” opens diverse definitions and venue for the young to share the things they have in similar and express themselves more with love.
Claire Mariestella, one of the guest-sharer pinpoints the importance of courtship in a relationship.
She believes that one should learn to love and live life to the fullest.
Another guest, Dianne Margaret, shared her extraordinary love story. She is a member of the NBSB (No Boyfriend since Birth) Club.
“I always know the profiles of my crushes. In fact, I go wherever they go. I keep on stalking with them, but I never make the first move for them to notice me and … fell in love with me.”, Margaret said.
Meanwhile, Irish Barbadillo, one of the delegates expressed that the reason of engaging herself into a relationship is to have someone who can motivate her and help her grow and become more mature.
Another delegate said, “if you can wait, something good will happen. Huwag masyadong magmamadali.”
Aside from the young people who expressed themselves in the forum, a couple was invited to deepen the perception of most youth towards love.
The couple explained that destiny and the highest calling of the human person is to be a gift to others.
They also stressed out their disagreement towards having a live-in partner that is out of wed-lock as practicing Catholics.
As the Salesian Youth Movement National Assembly reveals their theme, “Go and Bear fruits: Fruits that will last”, the Salesian Society is looking forward for the young people to plant LOVE within their hearts, let it grow to bear good fruits and build chains of affirmation.
Aside from tackling love as something “worth waiting for” and the sacrifice of marriage, RH bill and contraceptives were also discussed during the forum. (Kim Delos Santos/Jandel Posion)
