In a government-run television program, Usec. Leon Flores, chairman of the National Youth Commission emphasized that reform is what the SK needs, not its abolition.
“Reform on the current laws that is effective is what we are pushing for”, Flores said.
The National Youth Commission is pushing forward the position paper that they have submitted to the House of Congress lately, to help decline corruption and dirty governance that destroys the system of SK.
Flores added that the proposed paper aims to make young people participate in SK Barangay election from 18-25 years of age, unlike the current system of 15-17 years old only.
In an article from www.journal.com.ph, it states that SK was created under RA 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991. It aims to train or to establish a training ground in the village system for young people who are interested to become country leaders in the future. (Jandel Posion)
