After the successful celebration of Year of the Youth in 2011, young Catholics are now encouraged to actively participate in the on-going Year of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) by no less than the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
The CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY) invited youth ministers to actively participate in the Year of PMS, citing the relation of youth apostolate with the formation of young Catholics to be missionaries.
ECY executive secretary Fr. Conegundo Garganta encouraged youth ministers to collaborate with the PMS and their diocesan counterparts for the activities set for the occasion, especially the upcoming Grand Mission Festival on April 18 to 20 at the Marikina Sports Complex.
“Since one of our tasks in the youth ministry is the formation of our young people to be missionaries, this ‘Year of the PMS’ is a fitting continuation of our faith-journey from last year’s ‘CBCP Year of the Youth,’” he said.
The Church official called on parish-based and school-based youth groups and independent organizations nationwide to send representatives to join their respective diocesan delegation to the Grand Mission Festival.
“I wish us youth ministers and the young people under our care to collaborate with the PMS and their diocesan counterparts in the activities for this special year, both at the national and diocesan levels. In particular, I invite you to participate in the Grand Mission Festival this 18-20 April 2012 in the Diocese of Antipolo,” he said.
“For those in dioceses, let us do this by linking with the Mission Director of our respective dioceses and joining the delegation of the diocese; for those in FNYO (Federation of National Youth Organizations) member-organizations, by organizing our own respective delegations to this event,” he added.
Garganta likewise urged the young to pray for the renewal of missions, which the CBCP president, Archbishop Jose Palma, has requested the faithful to pray during Sunday Eucharist this 2012. (YouthPinoy)
